Okay, so the title kinda doesn't fit in with the story, but hopefully you guys get the gist. Enjoy!

You sighed as you left your work meeting. Fixing a hair behind your ear you looked at your watch. ‘Hmm, better get the groceries and head home…’ you thought to yourself. Yep! Just another one of those days…

~

After you grabbed the shopping you got into your car and drove off. You smiled as you crossed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, thinking of how you moved to Sydney for a better shot at your job and catching glances at the Opera house. Okay, saying that you had moved to Sydney is a bit of a stretch… You more-or-less lived in a more rural town, close to Sydney. About a twenty-minute drive away. You’d lived by yourself for a while; you never really talked to the neighbours. Heck, you didn’t even know what one of them looked like! So, all in all you were kind of lonely. You were on the highway heading to your town by the time you’d finished thinking about what you’d make for your dinner-for-one. You were suddenly shocked by the sounds of multiple horns going off in the lane to your right*. Your (e/c) eyes widened to see a massive kangaroo hopping over the fence that separated the lanes, and directly in front of your car.

You slammed your foot on the breaks in hopes of avoiding the kangaroo, but, unfortunately, you hit the marsupial mid-hop, sending it flying over the car and being finished off by the car behind you. Pulling over, you turned your hazard lights on to warn other cars that you had stopped. The driver of the car behind you did the same. You both stepped out of your cars and looked at the damage on your own cars. “Oh, Schweppes…” You lifted your head from your car to see a man looking over his car’s bonnet, and out toward the road. Remembering you’d just hit a kangaroo, and a large one at that, you walked over to see that he was looking at it. “What’s wrong?”  The man tore his gaze from the marsupial to look at you. “Besides the fact that I’ve just hit a roo, I’ve hit a female one…” You tilted your head to see what he was getting at. He sighed running his hand through his brown hair, causing two noticeable pieces of hair to move around. “You don’t get it? A female! She could have a joey in that pouch!”

Your eyes widened as you realized. The man’s thick Australian accent cut through your thoughts, “Come on, and help me drag ‘er off the road!”

“Right!” He ran onto the road with you in toe, fortunately for the two of you, and the potential joey, it wasn’t a busy highway. Trying your best to carry the marsupial to the side of the road, you put her down. The man wiped the sweat from his head with his arm, and extended his hand out toward you. “Right! The name’s Jack. Jack Kirkland!” you giggled as you gave him your hand and shook it. “(Y/n). (Y/n) (l/n)!”

He gave a smile and nodded. “Well, if you’ll excuse me, I have a joey to look for.” With that, Jack got down and began to look through the mother’s pouch. “Schweppes… You’re a lucky lil’ fella aren’t you…? Sorry, mate, but your mum’s not with us anymore… Up we come!” He stood up, cradling the little joey in his arms. “Lucky for us, he’s pretty big, and he’s got fur, so fortunately for us, we didn’t squish a pink jelly bean*…” Jack walked over to you and showed you a bundle of brown fur, with big eyes, floppy ears and goofy feet. You couldn’t hold back anymore “Aww! He’s so cute!” You went over to pat it, but the Australian, gently, but quickly, pulled the joey away. “I wouldn’t pat him right now… he’s still a bit shocked…”

You lowered your hand and with a pout on your face. “Oh, okay.”

He scratched the back of his head, holding the joey in one arm. “Well… I better get going and take this little guy home to fix him up.”

“No, no! Let me! I hit his mum; the least I can do is take him to the vet and take care of him instead! I don’t want you to do something for my mistake.”

“But I finished it off…”

“ But we’re strangers!”

The Australian huffed. “Look, if it’ll make you feel any better, I’ll give you my address. Come over in a few days and maybe we can take shifts or something… Let me just sit him in my car.” He walked over and sat the young marsupial into his car. “There! My koala should keep him comfortable.” You blinked a few times, trying to comprehend what he just said. “You’ve… Got a koala?” The Australian reached into his pocket and grabbed a pen and a slip of paper from his pocket “…Yup… Here” He handed the now written-on paper over to you. ‘I’ll have to check it later’ You thought to yourself.

Jack’s car had been following yours for the whole trip. Literally!

Before you pulled into your driveway, you noticed his car wasn’t there. Stepping out of your car you heard someone shouting to you. “Oi’! How come I never knew you lived there?” Turning around you saw a man with tanned skin, brown hair, and greenish-yellow eyes, holding a joey, and grinning like crazy. It was none other than Jack Kirkland, standing in the driveway of your anonymous neighbour’s home. “How come I never knew that you lived there?”

The two of you burst out laughing, with Jack stopping abruptly, to settle his new friend down. “I guess I startled him with my sudden outburst… Well, I’m goin’ inside. Ooroo*!”

You mimicked his actions by going inside your own home, groceries in your hands.

~

It had been about a month or so since you and Jack started your little ritual of coming over and checking up on the joey, whom you respectively named… Joey. Sadly, since you knew little on raising Australian wildlife, you had to let Jack do all the handling. The little joey became…Not so little, and Jack thought it best to give him to a national park so he could be with his fellow kangaroo/joey friends, and be fussed over by tourists and five-year-old children who have never seen a marsupial up close.

You were relaxing on your couch, having just finished dinner, watching TV and waiting for your food to go down a bit, before you were interrupted by a knock on the door.  “It’s open!” You heard the door open and close, with footsteps making their way towards your living room. “That’s a risky move Sheila.” You blushed at the nickname your Aussie friend had given you. Oh! I forgot to mention! Like most of the other stories that have ‘X reader’ on them over the past month you’ve developed feelings for him, hence the blushing on the nickname.

You turned around to look at the Australian, “Hi, Jack. What do you mean by; ‘risky move’?”

“Well, Sheila!” He began, and walked over and sat on the spot on the couch that was next to you. “I could’ve been some sort of stalker-pedophile-rapist-thing. Then what would you’ve done?”

You put on a pouty-thinky face to try and think of a response, “Erm… Well… I’d scream out for you to come and catch the criminal for me- ARGH! WHAT’RE YOU DOING?!”

Jack had basically glomped you, with his arms around your waist, and his head lying on your chest. Big child-like smile, with innocent eyes staring up at you.

“I’ve caught the thief!”

“Wha-?! What’d I steal?! I’m in my own house for peets-sake!”

He buried his head into your chest and mumbled only just audibly, “You stole something very precious to me…” He lifted his head, “but I’ll tell ya later!”

You knew that he’d tell you later so you didn’t bother asking about it. You chuckled a bit at how he just went from slightly dramatic to enthusiastic, in a couple of seconds. “Alright, cuddly koala, you can let go of me and tell me why you came here. I’m certain that you didn’t some here to capture me for being a thief, of whatever I stole. So what did you come here for?”

Jack pulled a ‘le gasp face’ and even let out a le gasp, but it was exaggerated. “You mean, I can’t visit you without a reason?” He put his hand on his chest, gasped, then stood up and walked out of the room, swishing his hips, like Arthur would if he were dressed for Carnival. When he got around the corner, which was out of the room, you giggled, and giggled even more when he popped his head around the frame of the arch that led to your lounge room, in a cartoon-esque fashion. Grinning like an idiot, and keeping in that position he held out a DVD, that read, ‘Red dog’. “Nah! Just messin’ with ya! I’ve got a reason!”

~

You weren’t exactly sure when, but at some stage during the movie, you and Jack were laying on the couch, you, laying in between his legs with your head on his chest, and his arms wrapped around your body. As said previously, you weren’t sure when, exactly, but you think that it may have been the part were where Red was walking around Dampier, and Peeto saying, “Have you seen John?”

Using your deduction skills you assumed it was because he was doing this in an attempt to comfort you, seeing as though you were crying pretty hard. This method of comfort was indeed comforting, seeing as though he was at an advantage point. Being able to stroke your hair or cuddle you when you were about to cry.

By the end of the movie, when Jack had turned the movie off, the two of you just sat there in each other’s embrace for a while, in silence. In fact, you sat there for so long, that you almost fell asleep, until he spoke up. “Tired, thief?”

You looked up towards him with sleepy eyes, “Hn? Oh, yeah… a bit… I guess I was pretty comfy, huh? I’ll get off you, if you want…” As you were beginning to get up, he pulled you back down and rested his head in your hair. “It’s fine, Sheila… Just sleep here, like this.” He kissed the top of your head and leant back onto the couch.

~

Thinking you were asleep, after a few minutes of listening to your slow breaths, he tightened his grip on you for a brief moment. “Thank you, Joeys mum. For brining me and the thief who stole my heart together.”

You weren’t sleeping. Just resting.

“That’s what I stole?” You said, sitting up. Startling Jack, making him jolt. Face being dusted with pink.

“(Y-Y/n)?! You heard me?!”

“Don’t worry,” You said, kissing his forehead. “We’re even.”

“Wh-what do you mean?”

You gave a sleepy smile and ruffled his hair, making his face go even redder than it was. Leaning in, and giving his answer, before touching his lips, “Because you stole mine.”

I’m sorry, if Jacky-boy’s out of character, but I’ve only written four Fan fictions, in general (Them, being reader inserts). I ask that you guys give me any sorts of criticism, as long as it’s not all ‘This is the crappiest thing I’ve read in my life!’ because that’ll make me cry …

Either that or I’ll think you’re lying because you haven’t given any explanation.
